Youth Independent Cinema is a film festival dedicated to amplifying the unique voices of young creatives. The festival celebrates emerging talents and offers a platform for student filmmakers.
YICFF started as an initiative to support youth filmmakers who may face the challenges of getting their films seen and making their voices heard. The mission is to celebrate the next generation of filmmakers by providing a film festival that values community over competition and creativity over polishness of production.
We're a free-to-enter and welcoming film festival that places importance on showcasing short films. You can be from any part of the country — no prior experience required.
YICFF wants to see your voice and your distinct style. We value storytelling over the polishness of production, so go out and make your short film with whatever equipment you have. Don't hold back on your vision.
YICFF is not a competition — it's a platform for young filmmakers to gain exposure and connect with new people who share the same ambition, as well as professionals in the industry, through watching short films. We do have awards, but that's just for fun.
Here's how the 2026 festival season unfolds.
